Head of Passage Canal Services Preliminary Feasibility Study

Client: City of Whittier

Location: Whittier, AK

Year: 2007

Role: Project Manager

We conducted a preliminary feasibility study for the provision of day use recreation and boating facilities at the Head of Passage Canal area in Whittier. The services include a tractor launch, parking area, day use area with picnic tables and barbecue grills, and shuttle bus service from the area to downtown Whittier and the existing small boat harbor. These facilities and services would boost day use tourism, as well as provide a place for boat owners to park their trailers and access Prince William Sound. Later developments would include camping, a harbor facility, and other recreational amenities. The services considered in this study would provide a source of revenue while the City develops the rest of the area for recreation and marine use. This work took place in 2007.
