We evaluated the importance of the Port of Anchorage by considering the impact on transportation linkages and the cost of goods in Alaska if the Port were not in service. The analysis included estimating the future volume of materials that will be required for the future population growth and future industrial growth in the area served primarily by the Port of Anchorage. The study also estimated the effect on consumer goods and other materials if another Southcentral Alaska port or another transportation mode were used to bring in needed fuel and supplies to the region, rather than through the Port of Anchorage. This work took place in 2008.
