We conducted a study for the Port of Corpus Christi that attempted to answer three questions about comparison ports’ tariff updates: what metrics do other ports use to inform their tariff adjustments, how often do they adjust their tariffs, and do they adjust on a commodity or across-the-board basis? The study found that wharfage and dockage rates had different update frequencies, wharfage adjustments tended to be based on internal metrics rather than inflation measures used for dockage, and wharfage was typically adjusted at the commodity level. In addition to the report and a spreadsheet capturing all of the information, we presented its findings to the port’s Audit Committee. This work took place in 2025.
