Welcome to Mike Fisher’s professional site. Here you will find downloadable copies of the Harbor Economic Impact Model and various port and harbor-related presentations I have delivered.
The site name, Harbor Model, came about from it’s original intent of hosting the Harbor Economic Impact Model (HEIM), a tool developed by Northern Economics under contract to the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities to assess the local and regional economic impacts of harbors in Alaska. Using a VBA interface over an Excel workbook, the model used information about the user’s harbor, community, and regional fleet to assess its economic impact.
Due to compatibility issues with newer versions of Excel, the model is no longer functional, though a stripped-down version developed from it in 2016 takes its place. Both versions of the model, along with the original user manual and port and harbor-related presentations I have given to the Alaska Associations of Harbormasters and Port Administrators and other organizations during my career, are available on the Resources page.
You can contact me at Northern Economics, Inc. for any consulting needs you have.
